Invest in Biodiesel
Biodiesel, a wave of recycling for the future, a new fuel that’s starting to get popular, that is based on recycling or using vegetable or food oil for fuel. Many at-home-labs and conversion projects will go and pick up used vegetable oil from fast food places like Mc Donalds for free, take it home, filter it, and process it for their biodiesel engines. The result? a consumable cost of 25-50 cents/gallon, and an engine that can get upwards plus of 75 miles to the gallon. Sound fabulous? it is conceptually, but its alot of work to clean the oil at home. Biodiesel pumps however are being installed in many states and available at the pump. A bit cheaper than petrol, you still get the maximizing effect of miles to the gallon. How to convert your engine over to biodiesel? There are kits as cheap as $200. However, you have to already have a diesel engine to start the conversion. An amazing new investment strategy? Invest in biodiesel companies to maximize your profit … there’s growth there too, more miles for your dollars, in many more ways than one. Just google “biodiesel” and you’ll be amazed by this new technology. If I already had diesel engines in my car and RV, you can bet I’d already be converted. Just wish there was a way to convert my regular engine over. :: sigh :: someday.

While the thought off being able to refine my own fuel for my diesel pickup is a dream. That is were is stays, as a dream. The thought of going up to McDonald’s and ordering a Big Mac meal then instead of Supersizing have them throw there waste oil from their fryer’s in the 55 gallon drum in the back is tempting. I was considering on purchasing a biodiesel unit, but it was more like $2,995. Not $200. Before investing that kind of money into a home refining unit. I researched the oil supply. While some resturants may want to give away there used oil, alot of them sell the oil as I was advised by a friend who is a resturant manager. If you can secure a source of oil, you still have the dilema of where to put your new biodiesel refining unit. Most will fit in the corner of your garage. However, before you install it, you’ld might want to check to see if any local ordinances prohibit a mini-refinery in a residential neighborhood. Even if your city does not have any ordinances against it, you may still have to get permission from your neighborhood association. In my case, mine already said, “NO!” Your neighbors may not be keen on the idea of you turning you garage into a fuel depot and storage. Don’t get me wrong, I think the concept is great, but there are some drawbacks. At least there was in my situation.
