In the past, customers might have file a complaint against those big companies for unsatisfactory service or products. More than likely, those companies would deny that accusation, and continue to work on the same way. Because they are big, and they have professional Public relation department to handle every single scandals and botch on their reputation. Some consumers feel useless to pursue the matter further, so they given it up easily. Nowadays, the phenomenon is about to change. Because the proliferation of computer and social networking sites are so popular among users, communications become one of the biggest weapons for us to use against those huge corporation companies.
Musician Dave Carrol had a bad experience with United airline during a flight; they broke his guitar, and denied that was their wrongdoing. Mr. Carrol wrote a song and publish it on youtube to fight for his right, and demand United to take responsibility. This act forces United to take responsibility and official apologize for their wrongdoing.
Another example is a couple who wants to take honeymoon to foreign country, and they have bad experience with Expedia. After the credit card companies denied their responsibility, and won’t cooperate with that couple. They wrote blog and communicate their bad experience with online friends on facebook, and twitters. This act also force expedia to recognize this matter seriously, and they agree to on responsibility further.
